Everything You Need to Know About Google’s $45 Million Deal to Spread Israeli Propaganda

In June 2025, reports revealed that Google signed a $45 million advertising contract with the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The purpose of this deal was to promote state messaging about Gaza. That messaging includes denying the famine, minimizing war crimes, and spreading government-approved propaganda during a military campaign that has killed tens of thousands of Palestinians.
This is not just unethical advertising. It is the use of one of the world’s most powerful tech companies to promote disinformation while a genocide is unfolding.
What Did Google Agree To?
According to reporting from Drop Site News, internal documents from the Israeli government show that Google is running a large-scale public relations campaign across:
- YouTube
- Google Display & Video 360 (DV360)
These platforms are being used to promote content directly backed by the Israeli government. One example is a Foreign Ministry video that claimed:
“There is food in Gaza. Any other claim is a lie.”
That video was viewed over six million times through paid promotion, and it began circulating shortly after Israel announced a full blockade on food, fuel, and humanitarian aid on March 2.
During a Knesset hearing, military spokesperson Avichai Edrei suggested launching a digital campaign to deny hunger in Gaza and manage the global narrative.
This Is What Propaganda Looks Like
The campaign is described in official documents as "hasbara." In Hebrew, this refers to state-directed propaganda that attempts to justify Israeli military actions.
Through Google’s advertising network, the Israeli government:
- Denied the existence of a famine declared by the United Nations
- Attacked organizations like UNRWA and the Hind Rajab Foundation
- Smeared pro-Palestinian human rights groups without evidence
All of this happened as the humanitarian crisis worsened in Gaza. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, at least 367 Palestinians have died from hunger and malnutrition, including 131 children.
“This famine is entirely man-made. It can be halted and reversed.”
— Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (UN-backed)
Instead of acknowledging the situation, Google amplified messaging that erased these deaths and justified the blockade.
Google’s Other Deal with the Israeli Military
This is not Google’s first controversial partnership with the Israeli government. In 2021, Google and Amazon signed Project Nimbus, a $1.2 billion cloud computing deal that includes:
- Hosting data for the Israeli Ministry of Defense
- Providing artificial intelligence tools
- Services that specifically avoid human rights audits
Internal employee leaks show that Google’s leadership is not interested in accountability. When UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese criticized Google’s involvement in Gaza, company co-founder Sergey Brin reportedly called the United Nations “transparently antisemitic” in an internal forum.
This shows a pattern of alignment with a government accused of war crimes and mass civilian targeting.
A Broader Network of Disinformation
Google is not acting alone. Documents show that the Israeli government has also spent:
- $3 million on advertising with X (formerly Twitter)
- $2.1 million with Outbrain and Teads
- An undisclosed amount on ads through Meta’s platforms
These ads targeted not only public opinion about Gaza but also organizations that support Palestinian rights. Some campaigns attacked international aid groups and falsely accused them of supporting extremism.
Separate content was created to justify Israeli airstrikes on Iran, with a focus on “securing the West” and “defending freedom.”
This is not about truth. It is about narrative control.
