📢 TikTok Just Hired a Former Israeli Soldier to Control “Hate Speech”

Tiktok hires former israeli soldier to monitor hate speech

Who Is Erica Mindel?

TikTok’s new hate speech manager is Erica Mindel.
She used to be a military instructor in the Israeli army.
She’s also worked for the U.S. government and the American Jewish Committee, where she helped run trips to Israel for politicians and media.

In a public video, Erica said she is a proud Zionist and joined the Israeli military because she believed it was the right thing to do.

“I made aliyah and enlisted,” she said, calling her military service part of her “lifelong commitment” to Israel.

Why This Is a Problem

Erica is now in charge of TikTok’s hate speech policy.
That means she decides what gets deleted and what stays.
Her focus is especially on antisemitism — but critics say that can silence real Palestinian voices.

A group called Sada Social says her role is dangerous.
They warn this may make it even harder for Palestinians to speak up online.
They called it a threat to digital freedom and fairness.

TikTok Already Censors Palestine

It’s not new.

Sada Social found that:

  • 27% of all digital violations against Palestinians happened on TikTok
  • TikTok followed 94% of Israel’s content removal requests
  • They deleted videos with journalistic value, like soldiers laughing after destroying homes
  • They removed accounts from Palestinian journalists, media outlets, and activists

And instead of fixing these problems, TikTok hired someone who helped lead those systems.

What Might Happen Next

This decision could mean:

  • More videos exposing Israeli crimes will disappear
  • More Palestinians will be banned or silenced
  • Truth may be labeled as hate speech

Erica Mindel worked for the U.S. State Department to fight antisemitism, but never spoke about anti-Palestinian racism.
She supports the same military currently under investigation for genocide in Gaza.

How can someone so closely tied to Israel decide what’s “hate” and what’s not, especially when Palestinians are the ones being targeted?

What Can You Do About It?

This isn’t just about TikTok.
It’s about truth.
It’s about letting Palestinians speak.
It’s about who controls the narrative.
